AARP, United Way seeking tax volunteers

PRESS RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 25, 2008

Millions of dollars go unclaimed by low- and moderate-income working families each year because they are not aware of the Earned Income Tax Credit or do not file a tax return.

United Way of Martin County and AARP are seeking volunteers to assist families with their tax preparation.

Volunteers are needed from Feb. 2 to April 16, 2009. A volunteer typically would serve two to four hours, once a week during that period.

AARP’s volunteer training will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 14 - 16 and 20 - 23 at the Hoke Library, 1150 N.W. Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach.

United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program training will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 26 - 29 at United Way office, 50 Kindred St., Suite 207, Stuart.

Anyone interested in either volunteer opportunity can call the United Way of Martin County office at (772) 283-4800.
