Volunteer managers receive FVM training certificate

Participants in the sixth graduating class of the Florida Volunteer Management Training Certificate Program have new credentials to enhance their leadership of volunteers at Treasure Coast nonprofits.

The six-week course, coordinated by Martin Volunteers, a program of United Way of Martin County, began Sept. 11 and concluded Oct. 16.

Certificates of accomplishment were presented Nov. 6 to the 16 managers of volunteers who completed the program. The graduates are as follows:

  • Heather Wiley, branch manager, American Red Cross NTC Chapter, Port St. Lucie

  • Megan Nole, volunteer coordinator, Area Agency on Aging, Fort Pierce

  • Jamie Adcock, associate director of volunteers, Children’s Home Society, Fort Pierce

  • Linda Pasinski, volunteer resources consultant, Children’s Home Society, Fort Pierce

  • Millicent Carpenter, mentor/volunteer coordinator, Gifford Youth Activity Center, Vero Beach

  • Lois Hunt, outreach director, Harvest Food & Outreach Center, Fort Pierce

  • Dale Kostakos, director of community resources, Helping People Succeed, Inc., Stuart

  • Marie Lumenti, volunteer coordinator, Homeless Family Center, Vero Beach

  • Joanne M. Coyle, volunteer coordinator, Lifeline of Martin County, Inc., Stuart/Jensen Beach

  • Ginger Barrett, store manager, Mustard Seed Ministries, Fort Pierce

  • Denise Rodgers, administrative assistant, Mustard Seed Ministries, Fort Pierce

  • Arlene T. Smith, store manager, Mustard Seed Ministries, Port St. Lucie

  • Janice M. Smith, manager relief, Mustard Seed Ministries, Port St. Lucie

  • Elaine Erickson, resource coordinator, SafeSpace, Inc., Stuart

  • Sara Bumgarner, RSVP director, Senior Resource Association, Vero Beach

  • Karla Murray, volunteer and activities coordinator, Youth Guidance of Indian River County, Vero Beach

These managers of volunteers went through a six-part training program designed to help nonprofit organizations increase the effectiveness of volunteer programs.

The curriculum, developed by the Points of Light Foundation and administered through the Florida Association of Volunteer Centers, includes lessons on program management, planning, volunteer recruitment and placement, training and supervision of volunteers, and program evaluation.

The training course was facilitated by Martin Volunteers associate director Dianne Young, who has extensive experience in adult education, training and administration.
