Martin Volunteers launches HandsOn Martin

PRESS RELEASE DATE: MAY 4, 2009

More than 40 volunteers gathered the morning of April 25 at the Boys & Girls Club Cole-Clark Branch in Hobe Sound as Martin Volunteers, a program of the United Way of Martin County, launched its first HandsOn Martin project.

The day’s activities included painting a portion of the gym, removal of indigenous plants, spreading mulch, and refurbishing and painting picnic tables.

Volunteers groups included the Stuart Jeepers, RF Labs, Martin County Master Gardners, JC Penney’s and South Florida Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Martin Volunteers and Boys & Girls Club staff and board members also assisted the HandsOn Committee members.

The project was made possible through the sponsorship and/or donations of Day Agency, Rotary Club of Stuart – Sunrise and Sherwin Williams in Hobe Sound.

Team leaders guiding the volunteers included Paul Dumond of Quality Painting and Wallpapering Co. in Stuart, Michelle and Dave Tierney representing Gulf Stream Business Bank and Carol Cloud Bailey the Yard Doc for The Stuart News.

“This was a great turnout and project for the launch of HandsOn Martin,” Martin Volunteers Advisory Board President Tom Weiksnar said.

“We hope more businesses and groups will help us sponsor and participate in service projects that show immediate gratification and results.”
