Martin Volunteers issues FVM certificates

Eleven Treasure Coast area professionals recently completed the Florida Volunteer Management certificate program.

The six-week training program, provided by Martin Volunteers, a United Way of Martin County program, is designed to enhance the skills of individuals who manage volunteers, thereby promoting high-quality service delivery to volunteers and clients.

The 2009 class included: Carrie Rossman, Indian River Habitat for Humanity; Lana McClain, Volunteer St. Lucie; Jan Chase, Martin Memorial Health Systems; Darlene Forage, Plumbago Volunteer Services, Inc; Allison Peeler, Youth Guidance Mentoring and Activities Program; Nancy Puglio, Environmental Learning Center; Sharon Lear, Children's Home Society; Sheila Gomez, St. Joseph Church; Stacey Brownlow, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martin County; Margaret Reiman, Lifelong Learning Society FAU; and Lisa Poziomek, American Red Cross.

The core curriculum, developed by the Points of Light Foundation, includes the following modules:

  • Volunteer Program Management

  • Volunteer Program Planning

  • Volunteer Recruitment and Placement 

  • Volunteer Training

  • Volunteer Supervision

  • Volunteer Program Evaluation

Students participated in discussions, brainstorming sessions, learning exercises, role plays, group activities and learning games designed to enhance learning and skill building.
