Join the volunteer movement in Martin County

PRESS RELEASE DATE: JULY 7, 2009

President Obama recently unveiled United We Serve - a sustained effort to expand the size and impact of volunteer efforts in the United States of America.

First Lady Michelle Obama officially kicked off United We Service June 22 during the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service attended by Martin Volunteers Director Carol Hodnett.

The conference was the largest volunteering and service conference in history with close to 5,000 attendees. During the week of Oct. 19, plots and themes on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC television programming will center on volunteering to inspire Americans to serve.

Martin Volunteers, a United Way of Martin County program, is the gateway to civic engagement, serving as the connector to meaningful and challenging volunteer opportunities for all ages in our community.

If you, your family, business or a group you belong to are looking for service projects or meaningful volunteer opportunities, visit www.martinvolunteers.org for a sampling of volunteer opportunities that will allow you to be part of the renewed enthusiasm for volunteerism. Or join us for "Tuesday with Martin Volunteers" at 10 a.m. in the United Way office, 50 Kindred Street, suite 207.
