Volunteer reception center disaster training session planned

Martin Volunteers, a United Way of Martin County program, has been designated as the Emergency Support Function 15-A (volunteers) for Martin County.

As a member of the Florida Association of Volunteer Centers, the role increases to support for the State Emergency Operations Center, through an agreement with Volunteer Florida, the lead agency for Emergency Support Function 15.

Volunteer centers across the state will provide a liaison with the State Emergency Operations Center if requested and will provide deployable management teams.

Locally, Martin Volunteers will operate a volunteer reception center if requested, utilizing its expertise in managing volunteers by directing them during natural or man made disasters.

A minimum of 12 volunteers will be required to operate the volunteer reception center. Roles include: greeter, interviewers, data coordinators, safety trainer, phone bank, data entry and runners. 

A training session for volunteers will begin at 10 a.m. July 18 at the United Way office, at 50 Kindred St., Suite 207, Stuart.
