Examples of Consulting Assignments
AN ORGANIZATION SERVING THE HARD OF
HEARING
For a newly appointed Executive Director,
ESC/TC consultants facilitated development of a one- to
three-year business plan to provide a roadmap for action.
Each program of the organization was
analyzed and a simple financial model was created to understand
the financial impact of each program offering. A SWOT analysis
was conducted, potential competitors evaluated and several
potential business scenarios discussed. Finally, a detailed
three-year financial forecast was developed along with a
detailed set of goals, objectives and action plans.
The business plan is now being executed and
guiding the priorities of this client.
AN AGENCY IMPROVING BIRTH OUTCOMES
FOR YOUNG MOTHERS
For this growing organization, a strategic
planning process was facilitated involving the board of
directors and executive director.
To understand the organization’s programs
and services, we interviewed program managers and other key
staff and identified major issues that were impacting
organizational effectiveness and limiting potential growth. The
board was divided into four work groups to establish objectives
and action plans to address these issues and these were
incorporated into a strategic plan written by the executive
director.
AN AGENCY SERVING HOMEBOUND DISABLED
AND ELDERLY PERSONS
Asked by the executive director of this
agency to examine the financial record keeping and reporting
system and recommend improvements.
The financial tracking and reporting
systems were reviewed, the outside financial audit was examined
and interviews were held with the agency accountant and
executive director. Recommendations were made that clarified
financial statements and empowered the executive director to
search for an outside auditor that can provide stronger support
services.
AN ORGANIZATION PROVIDING SERVICES
TO FAMILIES IN NEED
This agency sought assistance to help
develop a marketing plan for a case management service to
elderly persons that was not meeting its goals.
Consultants met with key personnel to
address the goals and objectives of the program, review
marketing strategies and results, and assess program resources. The
client was presented with two options; to develop and support a
two- to three-year marketing plan with ESC's help, or decide
to dissolve the program and cut losses. The client decided it
did not have the resources to continue to provide this service
and dissolved the program.
AN ORGANIZATION PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE
TO PERSONS IN NEED
The agency was in a state of transition.
The client population was changing and volunteer resources were
declining.
Interviews were held with key personnel and
board members to better understand the agency mission, ascertain
the scope of the challenge and assess the agency’s resources.
A strategic planning process was developed
and facilitated with the board of directors and executive
director. Issues were prioritized and board committees assigned
to develop action plans with specific outcomes and timelines.
A SENIOR SERVICES ORGANIZATION
The parent organization requested
assistance with marketing a program that provides volunteer
caregivers to disabled and frail elderly persons. The program
needed to increase the number of clients and volunteers to match
with those clients.
A study was conducted to determine (a) where
eligible clients were located and (b) what would attract
volunteers to this type of service opportunity. A marketing plan
with specific strategies and tools were developed and
implemented under the direction and guidance of the
consultants. A 30% increase in calls to the program was
realized in the first three months.
AN ORGANIZATION PROVIDING ASSISTANCE
TO THE HOMELESS
The executive director sought assistance to
facilitate a strategic planning process with the board of
directors.
A strategic planning process was developed
and approved by the executive committee of the board of
directors. Consultants facilitated a SWOT analysis of the
organization and facilitated a series of board meetings to
revise the mission, goals and objectives of the organization. Specific action plans were developed by board committees with
designated roles, responsibilities and timelines for completion.
AN ORGANIZATION PROVIDING SERVICES
TO DISABLED CHILDREN
The clients of this agency create works of
art as part of the physical therapy program. The agency has
attempted to capitalize on these artistic creations to generate
revenue. These initial attempts have met with minimal, but
encouraging results. The executive director engaged consulting
services to help development a marketing plan to boost sales.
A business plan and marketing strategy were
developed to address prospective customers, saleable products,
product positioning in the marketplace, promotion and
distribution. This plan was developed for maximum efficiency and
effectiveness within the limitations of current resources.
A GUARDIANSHIP AGENCY FOR FRAIL
AND ELDERLY PERSONS
Agency needed assistance to restructure a
for profit entity and develop a related nonprofit entity that
will reach a specific target market and be eligible for
government revenue streams directed to that population.
Consultants interviewed the principals to
assess the full scope of the challenge presented. A plan was
developed to create a nonprofit entity that would be wholly
separate in all business operations from the for profit entity
and qualify for IRS nonprofit status and incorporation in the
state of Florida as a tax exempt organization.
AN ORGANIZATION PROVIDING SERVICES
TO EX-OFFENDERS
Organization asked for assistance in
helping them with strategic planning to deal with a broad
spectrum of strategic issues and help them become a more focused
efficient and productive organization.
Through a series of interviews, we
identified and prioritized the major issues facing the
organization and their long term goals. A strategic plan
focusing on results was developed and implemented. As a result
this organization was successful in getting new grants resulting
in a 500% increase in funding to add new programs and services.
A FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATION SERVING
THE UNDERSERVED
The executive director of this organization
asked for assistance with developing a new mission statement and
to work with the board of directors to develop short and long
term strategies for growth. A board retreat was completed in
which the mission statement was revised and a SWOT analysis was
conducted. Developing of short and long term strategies and
defining the role of board members are the next steps for this
organization.
