Mentors for Martin
Mentors
for Martin opens doors to volunteer opportunities that provide support, counsel,
friendship and a good example to the young people in our community.
Martin Volunteers (formerly the Volunteer & Community Resource Center) is part of Mentors for Martin, which is a collaborative of local agencies
dedicated to promoting quality mentoring. In its most recent support function
for mentoring, Martin Volunteers (then VCRC) applied for and received $15,000 in grants in 2005 to
promote mentoring, thanks to the Volunteer Florida Foundation.
Martin Volunteers also helps to organize workshops and training for
other mentoring organizations.
Members of Mentors for Martin include the following agencies, which have
opportunities for people to work with children and adults:
WHAT IS A MENTOR?
A mentor is a committed volunteer who has an hour a day, a
week or a month to give to another.
WHAT IS MENTORING?
Mentoring is the presence of caring individuals who, along
with parents or guardians, provide people with support, advice, friendship,
reinforcement and constructive examples.
People need and want mentoring for a variety of reasons.

Helping students stay motivated and focused.

Providing a positive way for young people to spend free
time.

Helping young people face daily obstacles.

Developing career and life skills in people of
all ages.
