Good Times: Win groceries,
support volunteerism

VOLUNTEER & COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER
PRESS RELEASE DATE: JAN. 26, 2006

The Volunteer & Community Resource Center (VCRC) is holding its 15th annual “Good Times” fund-raiser, a raffle that offers weeks of free groceries and the chance to support valuable community services.

VCRC is looking for volunteers to help sell the tickets outside both Stuart Fine Foods grocery stores -- the Stuart location and the new Palm City store. Raffle ticket sales will run from mid-February through mid-March.

If you would like to help sell tickets – or want to buy some -- please call VCRC volunteer coordinator Shannon Midkiff at (772) 220-4472, ext. 228.

Good Times raffle tickets are a bargain at $2 each or 3 for $5. Thanks to the generosity of Joe Mazzochi of Stuart Fine Foods, the Good Times raffle once again will offer three prizes:

  • First prize - $1,300 in groceries.

  • Second prize - $750 in groceries.

  • Third prize - $550 in groceries.

  • Bonus - The person who sells the first-prize ticket will receive $100.

The winning tickets are good at either of the Stuart Fine Foods locations through March of 2007. The grocery store credit can be used in any amount throughout the year – not only on a week-by-week basis -- a plus for seasonal residents.

The drawing will take place on March 16, 2006, during the second recognition luncheon for RSVP volunteers at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Stuart.

The raffle raises about $6,000 each year for VCRC, which coordinates such large-scale projects as the White Doves Holiday Project, the School Supplies for Students Drive, disaster services and leadership development for volunteer coordinators. VCRC, a program of United Way or Martin County, also includes the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

“People often embrace the myth that volunteers are free,” VCRC director Carol Hodnett said. “Yes, they give their time, but there are expenses to recruiting, managing, tracking and recognizing volunteers. And there are expenses involved in running the projects volunteers work on.”
