Toys for Tots set for another season
PRESS RELEASE DATE: OCT. 4, 2006
The
Volunteer & Community Resource
Center (VCRC) once again has been
approved as the Local Community
Organization authorized by the
Marine Corps to conduct a Toys for
Tots campaign in Martin County.
“We are
pleased to support the Marine Corps
Reserve Toys for Tots program for
the 17th year,” said
Carol Hodnett, VCRC director.
Ms.
Hodnett recently returned from the
annual Toys for Tots convention,
where she receives training each
year in the appropriate way to carry
out a Toys for Tots campaign.
Maintaining such high standards is a
way that the Toys for Tots
Foundation has become ranked as one
of the top 400 charities in the
United States.
The Toys
for Tots partnership is important
for VCRC as it conducts the White
Doves Holiday Project, which is
entering its 18th year of
serving Martin County families in
need.
“Through
White Doves, we ensure that the toys
collected are also distributed to
the needy families in Martin
County,” Ms. Hodnett said.
Each
year, White Doves serves about 1,200
families with the staples for a
holiday meal and toys for their
children. Families are referred to
White Doves by social service
agencies, school counselors,
churches – community organizations
that know the people who are in the
most need.
The majority of the toys for White
Doves are collected through Toys for
Tots collection points. Last year,
there were more than 40 collection
points.
If your business or organization
would like to be a Toys for Tots
collection point, please call Carol
Hodnett at (772) 220-4472, ext. 221,
for authorization and materials.
“Businesses cannot use the Toys for
Tots logo or name in Martin County
unless they receive approval from
VCRC,” Ms. Hodnett said.
