Martin
Volunteers, a program of United
Way of Martin County, is lining
up jobs for teams of volunteers
to take action and help the
community.
“The
Done-in-a-Day projects are a
great way for people to get a
first-hand look at agencies that
are helping to improve lives,”
Martin Volunteers project
coordinator Anne Lalley said.
“They also provide team-building
opportunities for workplaces or
other groups, and the projects
deepen participants’
relationship to their
community.”
Most
recently, employees from South
Florida Orthopaedics & Sports
Medicine teamed up to work at
the new SafeSpace domestic
violence shelter. And to show
that it doesn’t have to be a
workplace that gets together for
a good cause, the employees were
joined by a group of volunteers
who dubbed themselves the
“Martin County Bunco Girls.”
Together,
the volunteers readied the new
facility for clients, setting up
kitchens, bedrooms and
bathrooms.
Next up on
Martin Volunteers’ Done-in-a-Day
roster is a project at Gertrude
Walden Child Care Center
starting at 9 a.m. on April 12.
About 10 volunteers from UPS
will help to paint the cafeteria
and kitchen at the center.
Martin
Volunteers is also working on
scheduling two more projects:
Managers from Macy’s will paint
two buildings for The ARC of
Martin County, and the Jensen
Beach High School Key Club wants
to volunteer to help the animal
shelter, Domino's House.
Past
projects have included:
-
The
Martin County Master
Gardeners did landscaping at
Dunbar Center in Hobe Sound.
-
Azteca
Roofing built a playground
at the Boys and Girls Club
in Indiantown (this was more
of a Done-in-a-Week
project!)
-
Pratt &
Whitney volunteer painting
the buildings at Hope Rural
School and doing an "extreme
make-over" of a
hurricane-damaged home in
Indiantown.
