The 16th
annual Good Times
fund-raiser had new prizes
this year, but volunteerism
in Martin County still came
out the winner.
The
Good Times fund-raiser
supports Martin Volunteers
and its many projects,
including the Retired and
Senior Volunteer Program
(RSVP), the White Doves
Holiday Project, the School
Supplies for Students Drive,
the Executive Service Corps
of the Treasure Coast,
leadership development for
volunteer coordinators, and
disaster services.
This
year, Good Times raised
$4,100 for Martin
Volunteers. Fund-raising
tickets were sold during
March and April, and the
drawing was held April 30.
The
first-prize winner was
Gillie Dorsey, who won a
week-long rental at Mountain
Top House in Georgia. The
prize -- valued at $1,200 --
was donated by Eric Kiehn,
who is the owner of C&W
Computers and the president
of the Martin Volunteers
advisory board.
The
second-prize winner was
Robert McLane, who won a
$1,000 Visa gift card.
Both
winners perform valuable
services for the community.
Notably, Gillie Dorsey was a
volunteer tax preparer at a
Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance site operated by
United Way this year. And
Bob McLane has been a
longtime volunteer with the
White Doves Holiday Project,
coordinating deliveries to
clients who have no
transportation.
“People
who sold and purchased
tickets not only helped
raise needed funds, but also
were made aware of the
wonderful services provided
to our community by
volunteers associated with
Martin Volunteers and RSVP,”
said Carol Hodnett, director
of Martin Volunteers.
