Below are just some of the volunteer activities that are available throughout Martin County via Martin Volunteers. The agencies requesting volunteers provide training and orientation for many of the positions.

WEDNESDAYS IN HOBE SOUND

Martin Volunteers is staffing a Hobe Sound site to reach more people looking for volunteer activities. Visit us on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon in the Property Appraiser’s Office at 11726 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound.

211 PALM BEACH/TREASURE COAST needs volunteers to distribute materials and discuss 211 services at community events.  They also need speakers to make presentations to community organizations.

ALZHEIMER’S COMMUNITY CARE needs day center volunteers and volunteers to assist with clerical/receptionist needs.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY Road to Recovery program needs volunteer drivers willing to take patients to and from their treatment appointments, as well as volunteers to serve on their Road to Recovery Task Force to recruit drivers for the program.  Volunteers who are breast cancer survivors are needed to reach out to newly diagnosed patients for one-on-one support through their Reach to Recovery Program. Also, volunteers are needed for their upcoming Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk (October 16, 2010) for the day of the event as well as committee members and team captains.

AMERICAN RED CROSS needs volunteers to serve as Hurricane Shelter Workers, Hurricane Disaster Volunteers, Remote Control Vehicle Operators and a Remote Control Vehicle Operator and Speaker.

ARC OF MARTIN COUNTY seeks volunteers to answer phones on Tues., Thurs., and Fri.  They also need volunteers in the construction field, medical volunteers, and volunteers to be motivational speakers and trainers in management.

AREA AGENCY ON AGING is looking for volunteers to serve as living healthy leaders to assist others to manage chronic health conditions (with training).

THE ARTS COUNCIL needs volunteers to work in the gallery, as well as to assist with their upcoming Arts Festival March 20 and 21.

AUDUBON OF MARTIN COUNTY seeks volunteers to maintaining their urban forest on Wednesdays and every other Saturday, as well as to serve as docents, handyman, office help, etc.

BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS needs volunteers to serve as school mentors.  There are many children waiting for someone like you to make a difference in their lives!

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB seeks volunteers to assist with special events (booths), to serve as data entry and general office help, and a handyman to assist with minor repairs, etc.

CARING CHILDREN/CLOTHING CHILDREN needs volunteers on Wednesdays and/or Fridays to assist in their literacy center helping children and parents select books.

CASTLE would like volunteers to help with phone calling, clerical assistance, and special events assistance.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES COUNCIL needs a volunteer for Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 9am-4pm to answer phones, greet visitors, and help with misc. office duties.

COUNCIL ON AGING of MARTIN COUNTY is in great need of volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Also need volunteers for the Adult Day Club, clerical help, and a lunch-time receptionist.  Also need volunteers who have time and enjoy planning and/or participating in fundraising events or grant writing.  Also need volunteers for early morning food pick-up and for their adult day care program. If you would like to share a talent (crafts, storytelling, music, chair exercise, etc) this is an opportunity for you!

DOMINO’S HOUSE seeks volunteers for to help in their kitten and teen cat rooms.

DUNBAR CHILD CARE CENTER needs volunteers to rock and hold infants, play with toddlers, and read to 3- and 4-year-old children.

FLORIDA ARTS AND DANCE seeks volunteers to help load a truck, load into/out of theatre (props, costumes, scenery) on May 26 (12:45-3pm).  Also need volunteers to load into theatre (props, costumes, scenery), laying dance floor, setting up dressing rooms (8:30am-2pm), rolling up flooring, folding backdrops and a little cleaning (9pm-10:30pm) on May 27.  Anyone who volunteers for at least two hours will get two free tickets to the show.

FLORIDA OCEANOGRAPHIC SOCIETY needs exhibit guides to interpret exhibits and relay information to the public about regional aquariums and touch tank inhabitance. Stress the importance of maintaining their fragile habitat and conservation issues that surround various species. Exhibit guides have an opportunity to learn one or more of the three daily educational programs. Choose from the Stingray Program, Game Fish Lagoon Program or the Nature Trail. You will learn about Florida’s diverse ecosystems and the animals that inhabit our region. Must love working with children and adults

FOSTER GRANDPARENTS PROGRAM seeks one-on-one mentors for elementary schools, local Head Start. Training provided.

GUARDIAN AD LITEM to represent abused, neglected or abandoned children in court.  Also need volunteers to help with data entry, filing and recruiting.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is looking for volunteers to assist with answering the phones at the administrative office, and to assist with mailings.

HELPING PEOPLE SUCCEED seeks a volunteer to instruct developmentally disabled adults to make age appropriate arts, crafts and jewelry during their day program.

HOBE SOUND ANIMAL PROTECTION LEAGUE needs 1-2 volunteer Grant Writers, volunteers for feeding/cleaning the animal sanctuary, transporters/workers for the booth at Petsmart (Saturdays), volunteers to trap/transport homeless cats, and also fundraising volunteers.

HOBE SOUND CHILD CARE needs volunteers to serve as Board Members, Grant Writers, and volunteers to participate in the Foster Grandparent’s Program.

HOPE RURAL SCHOOL needs volunteers to serve as tutors, aftercare aides, library aides, and technology assistants.

HOSPICE, TREASURE COAST needs friendly visitors, in-home care, nursing assistance, respite care, and workers for the thrift store.  Also need office assistance. 

HOUSE OF REFUGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF MARTIN COUNTY needs volunteers – various hours and days (docents, gift shop, education outreach, special events).

HUMANE SOCIETY needs help for thrift store, Pet Boutique, CatCare workers, Dog Walkers, foster families for cats/dogs, as well as volunteers for their thrift store (benefiting sheltered pets).

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT seeks volunteers to teach JA classes in local elementary schools.

KEEP MARTIN BEAUTIFUL seeks a volunteer with administrative skills to assist in the office.  Also seeking volunteers to man community outreach booths for special events.

MARTIN COUNTY ADMINISTRATION CENTER seeks volunteers to serve at the reception desk (directing visitors to the proper offices, answering questions about the area, etc.)

MARTIN COUNTY VETERANS CENTER needs volunteers to assist at the reception desk (answering phones, greeting visitors, scheduling appointments).

MARTIN COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT needs volunteers to assist with public education, emergency response, disaster recovery, and mitigation programs.  Volunteers also needed with file management and emergency program enhancement and development.

MARTIN COUNTY LIBRARIES needs computer class instructors (mouse skills, Word, Excel, Internet, email, etc.), docents, Book Depot workers (weekends), and salespeople for Bonnie’s Bookstore.

MC LIBRARIES CENTER FOR LITERACY need volunteers to teach adults how to read and write as well as bi-lingual volunteers to teach adults to read/write in English.

MARTIN COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS seek volunteers to help build and maintain various gardens throughout Martin County.

MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE needs a volunteer to assist with the Project Life Saver Program (assist clients with battery changes, some computer work, etc.)

MOLLY'S HOUSE seeks volunteers for front desk reception.

MUSIC EDUCATION SEMINARS, INC. is looking for volunteers to serve as bookkeeper, classical music librarian, stage manager, and in website development.

PARKWAY HEALTH AND REHABILITATION CENTER needs volunteers to serve as BINGO callers as well as walking partners for fun walks in their botanical garden.

THE PLACE IN STUART seeks volunteers to assist in activities, etc.

QUIT DOC RESEARCH seeks 17-24 year old volunteers to serve as a Tobacco Free Partnership Council delegate to assist with tobacco control and advocacy, education and prevention, and policy development.

SAFE SPACE needs volunteers to assist in the thrift store as well as with office help. They also need volunteers to serve as committee members and event volunteers.

SALVATION ARMY needs help in their thrift store and a receptionist on Monday and Friday afternoons in April and May.

SAVANNAS PRESERVE STATE PARK seeks volunteers for their "Can-Do Committee," a group that concentrates on special projects needed to maintain the Savannas. This includes trail work, building and repair, exotic removal, restoration, and any other odd job that needs to be done. The Can-Do Committee meets from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Jensen Beach. There are also volunteer opportunities available at the Education Center and for special events.

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL needs a truck driver who is able to move furniture.  Also looking for volunteers to assist sorting clothing.

STATES ATTY. OFFICE needs clerical help.

STERLING HOUSE OF STUART seeks volunteers to play bridge with residents.

STROKE OF HOPE CLUB, INC. needs volunteers to serve as moderators for their Aphasia, Stroke and Caregiver support groups.

STUART POLICE need volunteers to serve as citizen volunteers to assist the police department with community patrols.

TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN seeks volunteers to serve as mentors to local high school students.

THE ARTS COUNCIL needs volunteers to work in the gallery.

TREASURE COAST FOOD BANK needs volunteers to help sort food items.

UNITED FOR FAMILIES seeks volunteers to work in their resource room as well as volunteers to assist with clerical tasks.

US SAILING CENTER is looking for volunteers to assist with office cleaning from December 1 through March 30 (2x/week, 2 Hours each time).

VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE CLINIC needs help from retired health care professionals. (Primary Care Physicians and Registered Nurses)

WHO GOT GAME needs volunteers to serve as reporters and photographers for their on-line obesity prevention magazine, website designers and basketball league coaches and volunteers.
